The troposphere hosts weather phenomena. It is heated from below by the Earth’s surface, creating vertical temperature drops and strong convection currents that cause warm air to rise, condense and generate storms.

1 Answer

  1. (i) Responsible layer: The troposphere, extending from the ground up to roughly 12 kilometers altitude, contains almost all atmospheric water vapor and hosts all active weather phenomena. (ii) Primary cause: It is heated directly from the Earth’s surface below, causing temperature to decrease with increasing altitude; this thermal gradient triggers intense vertical convection currents, warm air ascension and cloud formation.
