We cannot always rely on touch to judge temperature because our sense of touch can be misleading. For example, if you place one hand in cold water and the other in warm water, and then put both hands into room-temperature water, each hand will feel a different temperature. Additionally, some objects may feel cool or warm due to their material rather than their actual temperature. To get an accurate measurement of temperature, we use a thermometer, which provides a reliable reading in degrees.
