Air plays an important role in the life of mosquito larvae because they need oxygen to breathe. Mosquito larvae have a special structure called a siphon, which allows them to reach the surface of the water and take in air. Without access to air, the larvae cannot survive and would drown. Therefore, mosquito larvae stay close to the water’s surface, where they can easily get the oxygen they need for survival.
