What is the connection between latitude and climate?

Latitude plays a significant role in determining the climate of a region. The Earth’s surface is divided into different climate zones based on latitude, such as the tropical, temperate, and polar zones. Areas near the Equator (low latitudes) receive direct sunlight throughout the year, resulting in hot climates. As we move towards higher latitudes, such as the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the angle of the sun’s rays becomes less direct, leading to cooler temperatures. Regions near the Poles experience very cold climates due to the sun’s rays being spread over a larger area. Therefore, latitude influences temperature, weather patterns, and overall climate of a place.
