Deserts are vast, dry, and barren areas of land that receive very little rainfall, usually less than 25 cm per year. They are characterized by extreme temperatures, with very hot days and cold nights. Deserts have limited vegetation, mostly consisting of hardy plants that can survive in such harsh conditions, like cacti and shrubs. Some deserts, such as the Sahara in Africa or the Thar Desert in India, are known for their vast stretches of sand dunes. Despite their harshness, deserts are home to many unique animals and plants that have adapted to the dry environment.
