The velocity-time graph of an object of mass 10 kg moving along a straight line is shown in Fig. 6.41. Calculate the force acting on the object by using the graph.

  1. Using the velocity-time graph in Fig. 6.41, the initial velocity at 0 s is 10 m s-1 and final velocity at 8 s is 30 m s-1. The acceleration equals the slope, calculated as 30 minus 10 divided by 8, giving 2.5 m s-2. According to Newton’s second law, force equals mass times acceleration, giving 10 kg multiplied by 2.5 m s-2, which equals 25 N.
