    Phloem fibers are thick-walled, long spindle-shaped dead cells with a narrow lumen. They provide mechanical support to the tissue. Phloem parenchyma is the thin-walled living cells of the parenchyma. They have two functions, as (i) storage and (ii) lateral food conduction.
