Skin cells normally divide by mitosis to produce identical cells for repair. If they divided by meiosis, the resulting cells would have half the chromosome number and genetic differences. This would disturb normal functioning, preventing proper tissue repair. As a result, wounds would not heal correctly, affecting body maintenance and survival.
