The cell wall is a tough outer covering found in plant cells, made mainly of cellulose. It provides structural support, protection and maintains the shape of the cell. It helps plants stand upright and resist environmental stress. Although rigid, it is permeable, allowing water and some substances to pass through while supporting the cell.
