A black body in physics is an idealized object that absorbs all incident radiation regardless of wavelength. It also emits radiation at maximum efficiency for any given temperature. The concept of a black body helps in understanding heat transfer and radiation laws such as Planck’s law and Stefan-Boltzmann law.

Class 11 Physics Chapter 10 Thermal Properties of Matter explains heat transfer specific heat capacity thermal expansion and calorimetry. It covers conduction convection and radiation and the concept of thermal equilibrium. The chapter also focuses on the laws of heat transfer and their practical applications important for the CBSE Exam 2024-25.

A perfectly black body is one whose absorptive power is 1. This means it absorbs all the radiation incident upon it, without reflecting or transmitting any. A black body also emits radiation at maximum efficiency for any given temperature.
