Why do weather forecasts sometimes go wrong?

  1. Weather forecasting involves modeling chaotic atmospheric systems that are sensitive to even tiny changes in initial conditions. While meteorologists use powerful computers and vast amounts of satellite data, models remain simplifications of reality. Because the atmosphere is so interconnected, small measurement inaccuracies or unforeseen local variables can amplify over time. This complexity means that even the best models have limits, causing forecasts to occasionally deviate from the actual weather that occurs.
