Why do we call physics an an exact science

  • 1

Physics is called an exact science because it deals with the study of the natural world based on precise measurements, mathematical models, and empirical data. The principles and laws of physics are expressed in exact mathematical terms, allowing predictions and calculations that can be tested through experiments. Unlike fields that may rely on subjective interpretation, physics uses rigorous methods to test hypotheses and theories, ensuring that the results are reproducible and verifiable.

The exactness in physics comes from its reliance on clear, quantifiable observations and its ability to derive predictions that match experimental results with great accuracy. For example, the laws of motion or the laws of thermodynamics are expressed through equations that give specific, measurable results, allowing scientists to make precise calculations and predictions. Because of this reliance on measurement, calculation, and empirical validation, physics is considered an exact science, where uncertainty is minimized and outcomes are determined with high precision.
