The situation being referred to is Jumman and his family’s behaviour towards his aunt. Jumman’s aunt had transferred her property in his name on the understanding that he would look after her. The arrangement did work well for a couple of years but later, Jumman and his family grew tired of her. He became indifferent to her and his wife too grudged the little food the old lady wanted daily.
