      (i) In earlier times, rapid growth in population r,as more often followed by
      a period of food shortage.
      (ii) Foodgrain production in the past had not expanded as rapidly as the
      population.
      (iii) In the l9th century, this did not happen in England. Grain production
      grew as quickly as the rate of population.

      after Enclosure movement grain production grew as quickly as population.
