The main property used in magnetic separation is magnetism. Magnetic materials, such as iron and steel, are attracted to a magnet, while non-magnetic materials, like sand or soil, are not. This property allows magnetic substances to be separated from non-magnetic ones. For example, iron filings can be separated from a mixture of sand using a magnet.
