What is light pollution?

  • 1

Light pollution is the excessive or misdirected artificial light that brightens the night sky, making it difficult to see stars and other celestial objects. It is caused by streetlights, buildings, and other sources of light that shine where they are not needed. This pollution affects the natural environment, animals, and even human health. It also hinders astronomers from observing the stars and planets clearly. Reducing unnecessary outdoor lighting can help minimize light pollution.
