Environmental consequences of increasing demand for energy are as follows:
1.Use of fossil fuels is increasing air pollution which is not good for our health.
2. Air pollution is causing much damage to the ecosystem.
3. Greenhouse effect has resulted in global warming which is manifesting itself in strange changes in the weather pattern around the world.
4. Too much exploitation of fossil fuels is going to create a situation when there would be not fossil fuel.
Steps to reduce energy consumption:
1. Judicious use of energy is the only way.
2. Use public transport instead of private modes of transport.
3. Use bicycle whenever possible.
4. Walk for short distance commute.
5. Avoid unnecessary use of modern gadgets which consume lot of energy.
6. Get a solar water heater installed for winter.
Industrialization increases the demand for energy. Fossil fuels are easily accessible sources of energy that fulfil this demand. The increased use of fossil fuels has a harsh effect on the environment. Too much exploitation of fossil fuels increases the level of greenhouse gas content in the atmosphere, resulting in global warming and a rise in the sea level. It is not possible to completely reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. However, some measures can be taken such as using electrical appliances wisely and not wasting electricity. Unnecessary usage of water should be avoided. Public transport system with mass transit must be adopted on a large scale. These small steps may help in reducing the consumption of natural resources and conserving them.
