where k is Coulomb’s constant, Q is the charge, and r is the distance from the charge. Let the required point be at distance x from charge +16q (placed at x = 0). The charge −4q is at x = L.
For the net electric field to be zero, the field due to +16q must be equal and opposite to the field due to −4q:
