Suppose a plant has height 1.75 feet and it grows by 0.5 feet each month. (i) Find the height after 7 months. (ii) Make a table of values for t varying from 0 to 10 months and show how the height, h, increases every month. (iii) Find an expression that relates h and t and explain why it represents linear growth.

After 7 months, the plant height becomes 5.25 feet. The relation between height and months is h = 1.75 + 0.5t. It represents linear growth because the height increases by a constant 0.5 feet every month.

  1. The plant is initially 1.75 feet tall and grows by 0.5 feet every month. After 7 months, its height becomes 1.75 plus 0.5 multiplied by 7, which equals 5.25 feet. A table from 0 to 10 months will show a regular increase of 0.5 feet each month. If t represents the number of months and h represents the height, then the relation is h = 1.75 + 0.5t. This represents linear growth because the increase is constant every month.
