The headstream of a river refers to its primary source, usually at the highest point, where the river originates. It marks the beginning of the river’s flow before it travels downstream, gathering water.
The two main headstreams of the Ganges (Ganga) river are the “Bhagirathi” and the “Alaknanda”. They meet at a place called “Devprayag” in the state of Uttarakhand, India, where they converge to form the Ganges River. Devprayag is considered a sacred site, and it’s where these two major rivers unite to give rise to the mighty Ganga.
The Ganga, or Ganges River, is formed by the confluence of two headstreams: the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda. These two rivers meet at Devprayag in the state of Uttarakhand, India, to form the Ganga.
