Metanil yellow is a synthetic food color that is not approved for use in food products in many countries, including the United States and the European Union. It is often used as an adulterant, or a substance that is added to a food product in order to deceive or defraud consumers. Some studies have found that it may cause cancer in animals and may have other toxic effects on the body.
