Convection is the transfer of heat through a fluid (liquid or gas) by the movement of the fluid itself. When a fluid is heated, its particles gain energy and move faster, becoming less dense and rising. Cooler, denser fluid then sinks, creating convection currents that transfer heat.

Chapter 10 of Class 11 Physics focuses on thermal properties of matter. It includes topics like temperature and heat and thermal expansion and specific heat capacity and calorimetry. The chapter also covers heat transfer methods such as conduction and convection and radiation. Additionally it explains laws of thermodynamics and ideal gas laws.

  1. In this case, the primary mode of heat transfer is radiation, since the filament emits thermal radiation that heats the surrounding air and the glass of the bulb. Convection primarily occurs when the heated fluid (like air or water) moves due to temperature differences, but this is not the primary process in the case of a light bulb.
