If a ball is thrown up in a moving train, it comes back to the thrower’s hands. Why?

Both during its upward and downward motion, the ball continues to move inertia of motion with the same horizontal velocity as the train. In this period, the ball covers the same horizontal distance as the train and so it
comes back to the thrower’s hand.
