  1. Punjab became the center of India’s Green Revolution in the 1960s. Farmers switched from diverse crops to mainly wheat and rice, using chemical fertilizers, pesticides and tube well irrigation. Though food production increased, it also led to soil degradation, water depletion and pesticide-related health issues. The initial success brought long-term challenges, showing the need for sustainable farming practices today.
