Gurpreet is playing with his fraction kit (a kit is given at the end of the textbook). Do you remember how to make a whole with pieces of the same size? How many 1/5 pieces will you need to make a whole?

To make a whole using 1/5 pieces, we need 5 such pieces. Each piece is one-fifth of a whole, and when five of them are joined together, they complete one full whole. So, 5/5 equals one.

  1. If I use the fraction kit, I see that one piece of 1/5 is a small part of the whole. When I place 5 such pieces together, they perfectly cover the whole unit. This means five one-fifths make one whole. So, 1 = 5/5. It shows that 1/5 + 1/5 + 1/5 + 1/5 + 1/5 equals one complete whole.
