Yes, The Enemy resonates with A. J. Cronin’s Birth, as both stories explore the profound moral dilemmas faced by medical professionals amidst challenging circumstances. In Birth, the doctor must confront societal prejudices and personal biases while delivering a baby, reflecting the theme of duty over social norms. Similarly, Dr. Sadao in The Enemy grapples with his responsibility to save an enemy soldier despite nationalistic pressures. Both narratives highlight the human capacity for empathy and the ethical complexities faced by doctors, emphasizing that compassion can prevail even in times of conflict and prejudice.

From the Chapter 4. The Enemy.
Give answer according to your understanding.
Certainly, the story “The Enemy” reminds us of “Birth” of last year. The lead character is doctor in both stories who saves life of respective patient. The talent and work of both the doctors is commendable. In “Birth” the doctor sacrifices his own rest and comfort and brings a still born baby back to life. In “The Enemy” however, the patient was a wounded man (a war prisoner) from an enemy country who was almost to death. The doctor diligently removes the bullet from his body, heals the wound in a few days. And the most importantly saves his life by putting his own life at risk. The storyline may be different but the work of both is same. Patient was of paramount importance in both cases.
