On plain paper, water spreads. On crayon-colored paper, water stays on the surface. This is because wax makes the surface waterproof, showing how some leaves and surfaces repel water to protect themselves.

  1. When a drop of water is placed on plain paper, it spreads out and gets absorbed. But on wax crayon-colored paper, the water drop stays on top and doesn’t spread. This shows how wax makes surfaces waterproof. Similarly, plant leaves often have a waxy layer that prevents extra water from entering, protecting them from damage and keeping them healthy by avoiding waterlogging.
