How did the Buddha define true purity?

The Buddha defined true purity not as external cleanliness or rituals but as the purity of the mind. According to the class 6th social science NCERT, he believed that purity comes from overcoming negative emotions such as greed, hatred, and ignorance. True purity is achieved through self-discipline, meditation, and the practice of virtues like kindness and compassion. The Buddha taught that by purifying the mind and developing wisdom, one could attain enlightenment and freedom from suffering. For him, inner purity was the key to leading a peaceful and meaningful life.
