Why is Earth called the blue planet?

Earth is called the ‘Blue Planet’ because about 71% of its surface is covered by water, primarily in the form of oceans. When viewed from space, the large expanses of water appear blue, giving Earth its characteristic color. The oceans play a crucial role in regulating the planet’s climate and supporting life. The abundance of water is essential for sustaining plant and animal life, making Earth unique among other planets in the solar system. This is one of the reasons why Earth is often referred to as the “Blue Planet.”
