(a) Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) is Government of India’s flagship programme for achievement of Universalization of Elementary Education(UEE) in a time bound manner.

(b) It was started in 2001 by Atal Bihari Vajpayee government after modifying existing scheme like district Primary Education Programme (DPEP)

(c) The programme got legal backing after 86th constitutional amendment, which made free and compulsory elementary education to the children of 6-14 years of age, a fundamental Right.
