The cells of different organs of plants and animals need various necessary substances to carry out many metabolic activities and different type of waste products are created during these metabolic activities. So, transport of materials is necessary to supply the required substances and to remove the waste products.

The transport of materials, vital in both plants and animals, plays several crucial roles for their survival and proper functioning:
In Plants:
1. Water and Nutrient Uptake: Specialized tissues like xylem and root hairs facilitate the absorption of water and essential nutrients from the soil. The xylem transports water and minerals upward, ensuring hydration and providing necessary elements for growth.
2. Photosynthesis Support: Transport systems enable the movement of water and minerals to the leaves where photosynthesis occurs. This process converts light energy into chemical energy (glucose), essential for the plant’s energy needs and growth.
3. Nutrient Distribution: The phloem transports sugars, amino acids, and other nutrients produced in the leaves to other plant parts. This distribution sustains growth, repair, and energy requirements throughout the plant.
In Animals:
1. Circulation of Oxygen and Nutrients: Animals utilize circulatory systems to transport oxygen and nutrients from the respiratory and digestive systems, respectively, to cells throughout the body. This supports cellular functions, growth, and energy production.
2. Waste Removal: Circulatory systems also aid in waste removal, transporting metabolic byproducts like carbon dioxide to excretory organs, preventing the buildup of harmful substances that could disrupt bodily functions.
3. Hormonal Communication: The circulatory system transports hormones, enabling communication between various organs and tissues, regulating processes such as growth, metabolism, and reproduction.
