Why does water vapor rise in the atmosphere?

  1. Water vapor rises in the atmosphere because it is less dense than the cooler air around it. As the Sun heats the Earth’s surface, the warm air containing water vapor becomes lighter and rises, carrying the vapor higher into the atmosphere.
