Why do you think that the cell of meristematic tissues lack vacuoles?

Meristematic cells lack vacuoles because they divide continuously and need dense cytoplasm for active metabolism. Large vacuoles would occupy space and reduce the efficiency of rapid cell division required for plant growth and tissue formation.

  1. Meristematic tissue cells do not contain large vacuoles because they remain actively involved in continuous cell division. These cells require dense cytoplasm and sufficient space for rapid metabolic activities. Vacuoles mainly store materials and occupy large space, which could slow cell division. Therefore, absence of vacuoles helps meristematic cells divide quickly and efficiently for plant growth and development.
