Zitkala-Sa resisted the paleface woman because she was forced to cut her long, cherished hair, which was a deeply significant part of her cultural identity. In her Native American community, long hair symbolized strength and pride, and cutting it was a painful, demeaning experience. She resisted the woman’s attempt to make her conform to the paleface (white) customs because it felt like an attack on her heritage and personal autonomy. This act of defiance was her way of preserving her sense of self against the pressures of assimilation.

Zitkala-Sa resisted because the woman’s actions, like cutting her hair, symbolized a loss of her cultural identity. Therefore option 2 is correct answer.
