Why are traits acquired during the life-time of an individual not inherited?
Share
Any change in non-reproductive tissues cannot be passed on to the DNA of the germ-cells. therefore, the traits acquired during life-time of an individual are not inherited.
Acquired traits do not bring any change in the genotype of an individual. Hence, acquired traits do not get inherited.
The traits acquired during the life-time are changes in the non-reproductive cells of the organisms and are not capable of being passed on to the next generation.
Traits acquired during a life-time cannot be inherited for successive generations as the changes do not reflect in the DNA of the germ cells. For instance, a football player cannot pass on his skills to his offspring as they are limited to non-reproductive cells only.
This happens because an acquired trait involves change in non-reproductive tissues
(somatic cells) which cannot be passed on to germ cells or the progeny. Therefore, these
traits cannot be inherited.
