  1. A number of chronic diseases are metabolic disorders which appear after middle age, e.g., diabetes, hypertension. Some require a long exposure to the pathogen, e.g., leprosy. In all cases chronic diseases are slow developing diseases. Therefore, they occur in few cases as compared to acute diseases.
