Which of the following pairs of linear equations have solutions? If they have solutions, find them graphically: x + y = 5, 2x + 2y = 10.

It has infinitely many solutions. Dividing the second equation by 2 gives x + y = 5, identical to the first. Graphically, both equations form coincident lines; every point like (0, 5) or (5, 0) is a solution.

  1. This pair has infinitely many solutions. The coefficient ratios are a₁/a₂ = 1/2, b₁/b₂ = 1/2 and c₁/c₂ = -5/(-10) = 1/2. Since all ratios are equal, the graphs coincide into a single line passing through (0, 5) and (5, 0). Therefore, every coordinate pair satisfying x + y = 5, such as (1, 4) or (2, 3), is a valid graphical solution.
