Cells originate from pre-existing cells through a process called cell division. This idea was proposed by Rudolf Virchow and is part of cell theory. During division, a parent cell divides to form new daughter cells. This process helps in growth, tissue repair and reproduction. No new cell is formed spontaneously; every cell has a cellular origin.
