      The main stages of the unification of Italy were: –
      a) Italy was divided into seven states.
      b) During the 1830s, Guiseppe Mazzini put together a program for the unification of Italy.
      c) The revolutionary uprising of 1831 and 1848 failed.
      d) Through a tactful diplomatic alliance with France, Sardia-Piedmont Succeeded in defeating the Austrian forces in 1859.
      e) In 1861 Victor Emmanuel II was proclaimed King of United Italy.
