  1. Muscle cells play a crucial role in breathing by facilitating the movement of body parts involved in respiration. The diaphragm, a dome-shaped muscle located below the lungs, contracts and flattens during inhalation, increasing the volume of the chest cavity and causing air to rush into the lungs. During exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes, and other muscles, such as the intercostal muscles between the ribs, may contract to assist in expelling air from the lungs.
