What is melting?

Melting is the process in which a solid changes into a liquid when it is heated. When a substance like ice is heated, its particles gain energy and start moving faster, causing the solid to lose its shape and become a liquid. The temperature at which this change occurs is called the melting point. For example, ice melts at 0°C (32°F) to become water.
