  1. Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria change and become resistant to medicines meant to kill them. This happens when antibiotics are used too often or not taken properly. As a result, infections become harder to treat and even simple illnesses may turn serious. It can spread to others and cause major health problems. To stop this, antibiotics should be used only when needed and exactly as prescribed by doctors.
