  1. In Indian tradition, the year is divided into six seasons known as ṛitus: Vasanta (spring), Grīṣhma (summer), Varṣā (monsoon), Śarad (autumn), Hemanta (pre-winter) and Śiśira (winter). These six ṛitus reflect climatic changes and have deep cultural and religious significance. Each is associated with particular festivals, crops, rituals and natural transformations. This six-season classification offers a more localized and detailed view of seasonal changes compared to the typical four-season division used in many other countries.
