There are following disadvantages of fossil fuels like coal and petroleum:
• Burning of coal or petroleum causes air pollution.
• Acidic oxides like oxides of carbon, nitrogen and sulphur are released on burning fossil fuels. These oxides lead to acid rains, which affect our water and soil resources.
• Carbon dioxide gas also causes greenhouse effect in atmosphere.
• Fossil fuels are non-renewable sources of energy.

Disadvantages of fossil fuels are:
(i) The burning of fossil fuels produces large amount of carbon dioxide that causes increased greenhouse effect.
(ii) The burning of fossil fuels (such as coal) produces smoke which pollutes the air.
(iii) The burning of fossil fuels produces acidic gases such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. These acidic gases cause acid rain that affects our water and soil resources.
(iv) Fossil fuels cannot be replenished in short time because it takes millions of years to form them.
The disadvantages of fossil fuels are:
1. Burning of coal and petroleum produces a lot of pollutants causing air pollution.
2. Fossil fuels release oxides of carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, etc. that cause acid rain, which affects the soil fertility and potable water.
3. Burning of fossil fuels produce gases such as carbon dioxide that causes global warming.
The disadvantages of fossil fuels are as follows:
(a) Burning of coal and petroleum produces a lot of pollutants causing air pollution.
(b) Fossil fuels release oxides of carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, etc. that cause acid rain.
(c) It also causes global warming.
Following are the disadvantages of fossil fuels:
(a) They are non-renewable
(b) They produce air pollutants on burning.
