Two cubes each of volume 125 cm³ are joined end to end. Find the surface area of the resulting cuboid.

  • 1

Each cube has a side of 5 cm since 5³ = 125 cm³. Joining them creates a cuboid of dimensions 10 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm. Using 2(lw + wh + hl) gives 250 cm².

  1. Since each cube has a volume of 125 cm³, the side length is the cube root of 125, which is 5 cm. Joining two cubes end-to-end forms a cuboid with length 10 cm, width 5 cm and height 5 cm. The total surface area is 2(lw + wh + hl) = 2(50 + 25 + 50) = 2 × 125 = 250 cm².
