The last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar (Bahadur Shah II), was the son of Akbar Shah II (reigned 1806–1837). Akbar Shah II was already a symbolic figure with limited power under British protection. Bahadur Shah Zafar inherited a hollow title and was the final emperor, leading the 1857 revolt before being exiled by the British. The correct answer is (B) Akbar Shah II.

  1. The last Mughal emperor, the poet-king Bahadur Shah Zafar, was the son of Akbar Shah II. Akbar Shah II’s reign (1806-1837) saw the Mughal Empire reduced to only the city of Delhi and a small surrounding area, existing solely under the British East India Company’s protection and pension. Bahadur Shah Zafar inherited this powerless position. His final act as emperor was his symbolic, titular leadership of the Great Revolt of 1857, which resulted in his deposition and exile to Rangoon by the British.
