The height of a cone is 16 cm and its base radius is 12 cm. Find the curved surface area and the total surface area of the cone.

  • 1

The slant height is √(16² + 12²) = 20 cm. The curved surface area is πrl = 3.14 × 12 × 20 = 753.6 cm² and total surface area is 753.6 + π(12)² = 1205.76 cm².

1 Answer

  1. With height h = 16 cm and radius r = 12 cm, the slant height is l = √(h² + r²) = √(256 + 144) = √400 = 20 cm. Using π ≈ 3.14, curved surface area is CSA = πrl = 3.14 × 12 × 20 = 753.6 cm². The total surface area is TSA = πr(l + r) = 3.14 × 12 × (20 + 12) = 37.68 × 32 = 1205.76 cm².
