Suggest some approaches towards the conservation of forests.

Some approaches towards the conservation of forests are as follows:
(i) Indiscriminate deforestation should be prohibited.
(ii) Overgrazing by the cattle should be prevented.
(iii) Reforestation of the deforested areas should be undertaken.
(iv) Measures should be taken to prevent and control forest fires.
(v) People’s participation in the conservation of forests is very important.
Some approaches towards the conservation of forests are as follows:
(a) People should show their participation in saving the forest by protesting against the
cutting of trees. For example, Chipko Andolan
(b) Planting of trees should be increased. Rate of afforestation must be more than that of
deforestation.
(c) Some people cut precious trees such as Chandan to earn money. Government should
take legal steps to catch these wood smugglers.
(d) Habitants of forests must not be bothered by the forest offcials. Otherwise, this
would result in the clash between tribal people and the government offcials, thereby
enhancing the naxal activities in forests.
Various approaches are required for the conservation of forests. Afforestation is one of the most important approach. Besides this:
(a) Deforestation should be banned.
(b) People should be made more aware about importance of forests.
(c) The protected areas should be managed by local people which would be quite efficient.
(d) National parks and sanctuaries should be formed to conserve the biodiversity.
(e) Hunting should be banned and laws should be formulated against hunting.
(f) There should be proper laws for exploitation of forest resources.
Some approaches towards the conservation of forests are:
1. Conversion of forests into national parks, sanctuaries.
2. To take help of local people in conserving forest.
3. Not to allow the destruction of forests for making roads, dams and hotels etc.
4. Planting of trees should be increased.

• Preventing cattle ranching in the forest
• Promoting afforestation
• Preventing the soil erosion
• Mobilising people’s active cooperation
