Underground water gradually dissolves soluble rocks such as limestone and creates distinctive landforms beneath the Earth’s surface. These features develop over thousands of years through continuous chemical weathering and groundwater action, forming unique landscapes that are important for both geography and tourism.

My model shows the different landforms formed by underground water in limestone regions. It includes a limestone rock, a cave, stalactites, stalagmites, a pillar (column), an underground river, a spring, and a sinkhole (doline).
Underground water containing weak carbonic acid slowly dissolves limestone rocks over thousands of years, forming caves. Inside the caves, mineral-rich water drips from the roof and forms stalactites, while the minerals deposited on the cave floor form stalagmites. When a stalactite and a stalagmite grow and join together, they form a pillar (column). The model also shows an underground river flowing through the cave, a spring where underground water emerges on the Earth’s surface, and a sinkhole, which is formed when the roof of an underground cave collapses.
