Description:
Calorific value represents the energy released per unit mass or volume of fuel during complete combustion. It’s measured in joules per kilogram (J/kg) or kilojoules per kilogram (kJ/kg) and aids in assessing energy content for combustion processes, power generation, and fuel efficiency evaluations.

  1. The calorific value of a fuel is the amount of heat energy produced when a specific quantity of the fuel is completely burned.

    Given:
    Mass of the fuel burned (m) = 4.5 kg
    Heat produced (Q) = 180,000 kJ

    The formula to calculate the calorific value (CV) of the fuel is:

    Calorific Value (CV) = (Heat Produced)/(Mass of Fuel Burned)

    Substitute the given values into the formula:

    CV =(180,000kJ)/(4.5 kg)

    CV = 40,000 kJ/kg

    Therefore, the calorific value of the fuel is 40,000 kJ/kg
